Schaul won her first WTA title
World number 60 Claudine Schaul won her first WTA Tour title by stunning top seed Lindsay Davenport 2-6 6-0 6-3 in the final of the Strasbourg Open.

Davenport, who is bidding to complete a career Grand Slam by winning the French Open, won the first set comfortably.

But the American capitulated in the second set and failed to recover in the decider against in-form Schaul.

The Luxembourg player showed composure to close out victory in her first appearance in a women's tour final.

Lindsay Davenport

"It's a dream to win a WTA tournament," she said.

"I was so emotional at match point that I double faulted several times and lost that game."

Davenport, who is ranked fourth in the world, was generous in defeat.

"The conditions were tough today," she said: "There was a lot of wind and I did not hit the ball like I should have.

"All my congrats to Claudine. She was definitely the better player today and she has a wicked forehand."
