Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova crushed Switzerland's Emmanuelle Gagliardi in the first round of the Korea Open on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old Russian broke Gagliardi's serve five times, wrapping up a 6-1 6-3 victory in 71 minutes.
"I thought I played quite well although the court surface was a little bit different to China," said Sharapova, who lost in the semi-finals there.
"It's a little slower and I had to adjust in the first few games."
Sharapova will play Japan's Miho Saeki for a place in the quarter-finals.
Saeki beat American qualifier Sunitha Rao 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7-5) after entering the draw as a lucky loser when Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia withdrew.
Second seed Shinobu Asagoe beat qualifier Seiko Okamoto 6-0 6-2 in an all-Japanese match to set up a meeting with American Abigail Spears.
Fifth seed Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia also advanced with a 6-1 6-1 win over Antonella Serra Zanetti of Italy.
She will face Israeli qualifier Shahar Peer, who beat Lenka Nemeckova of the Czech Republic 6-1 6-2.
Sixth seed Lubomira Kurhajcova of Slovakia lost 6-4 1-6 3-6 to Anne Kremer of Luxembourg.
And seventh seed Saori Obata retired suffering from heat exhaustion while trailing Yuka Yoshida 7-5 3-6 0-2.
Japan's Rika Fujiwara beat South Korea's Kim So-Jung 6-0 6-4.
