Top seed Elena Bovina made it safely through to the second round at the Estoril Open in Portugal.
The Russian put out former French Open champion Iva Majoli 6-4 6-2 while third seed Emilie Loit also won, beating Belgian Els Callens 6-2 6-2.
Fourth seed Denisa Chladkova of the Czech Republic defeated Yulia Beygelzimer of the Ukraine 6-3 6-2.
And Slovak Katarina Srebotnik, seeded seventh, beat Italian Rita Grande 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 7-5.
