Davenport powers through
Lindsay Davenport
Former world number one Lindsay Davenport crushed Jelena Dokic 6-1 6-0 to reach the final of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

The American second seed was in top form and never in trouble while putting an end to Dokic's season-opening tournament at the semi-final stage.

In Sunday's final Davenport will take on unseeded Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria.

Maleeva went through after Chanda Rubin withdrew with a left knee injury.

Davenport said: "I'm feeling confident, I had a great week with good, quick matches.

"To win here, you need to be doing well," she said.

"But Maggie's gonna be a little bit of a different match. We had some tough matches in the past."

Rubin herself had advanced to the last four following top seed Venus Williams' withdrawal.

She said: "I aggravated a knee injury in my first-round match and today it was serious enough not to play.

"I'm taking it seriously enough to make sure I take care of it now, so it doesn't become a bigger problem."
