Injury forces Venus out
Venus Williams
Top seed Venus Williams has pulled out of the Pan Pacific Open ahead of her quarter- final with Chanda Rubin.

Williams had a problem with her leg and said: "I consulted the doctor and there is nothing I can do. I wish things could be different but they aren't."

Meanwhile, defending champion Lindsay Davenport saw off Daniela Hantuchova 6-2 6-2 to reach the semi-finals.

She will face Jelena Dokic, who showed glimpses of her best form by beating Tatiana Panova 6-1 6-1 in 44 minutes.
