Venus injury lay-off continues
Venus Williams
Williams has not played since the Wimbledon final
Venus Williams has pulled out of next week's WTA Tour event in Filderstadt after failing to recover from an abdominal strain.

Williams, whose half-sister Yetunde Price was killed this month, has not played since she aggravated a stomach muscle injury at Wimbledon.

She did not play in the US Open and her absence from the tour has seen her world ranking drop to six.

Williams' younger sister Serena has also not competed since 5 July, when she beat Venus in the Wimbledon final.

Serena had left knee surgery on 1 August.

Both sisters are due to take part in the indoor tournament in Philadelphia from 27 October to 2 November.
