Anastasia Myskina caused a major upset by beating second seed Justine Henin-Hardenne to take the title in Leipzig.
The Russian, seeded third, held her nerve to win 3-6 6-3 6-3 after three tense sets.
It is the fifth tournament victory of her career, and brought an end to US Open champion Henin-Hardenne's 22-match unbeaten run.
Myskina only made the final when top seed Kim Clijsters retired from the semi-final when two games from victory.

But she took advantage of her good fortune to make amends for last year, when she lost to American Serena Williams in the final.
"It was a great week for me," said Myskina afterwards.
Henin-Hardenne was upset with her performance but gracious in defeat.
"I am very disappointed to lose," she said.
"I was in good shape and very motivated but Myskina was just better on the day. She deserved to win."
