Justine Henin-Hardenne followed up her US Open victory with a 6-1 6-2 straight sets defeat of Denisa Chladkova at the Sparkassen Cup on Thursday.
The number two seed reeled off 11 straight games after the Czech held service to start the match.
"This is a good start. The first match indoors is not easy, especially after a big win. It's difficult to find your rhythm," said Henin-Hardenne.
Henin-Hardenne, 21, defeated Kim Clijsters in the US Open final and
the two are in a heated race for the season end number one ranking.
Nadia Petrova came from a set down to beat Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld 3-6 6-1 6-4 on Thursday.
The number three seed now faces compatriot Anastasia Myskina in the quarter-finals.
Groenfeld, this year's junior French Open champion, gave Petrova a scare in the first set, but faded afterwards.
World number one Clijsters defeated Jelena Dokic 6-3 6-4.
