Jelena Dokic has slipped out of the world's top 20
|
Jelena Dokic set up a second-round clash with world number one Kim Clijsters by seeing off Croatian
qualifier Jelena Kostanic in her opening match.
Dokic came through 7-6 6-4 after saving a set point in the opening set, and the world number 26 admitted she faces a tough task if she is to return to the top 10.
"It doesn't come back just like that," said Dokic.
"I think it will take a few months but I am getting there. Every match I will just try to play well and not worry about winning."
Meghann Shaughnessy became the first seed to fall, the American seventh seed going down 7-6 7-6 to
Belgian Els Callens.
Sixth seed Nadia Petrova of Russia had little trouble against Katarina Srebotnik, beating the Slovenian 6-2 6-4.
Second seed Justine Henin-Hardenne will play her first match since beating Clijsters in the US Open final 16 days ago when she takes on Czech Denisa Chladkova on Wednesday.
Henin-Hardenne was keen to play down any feud with fellow Belgian Clijsters when she faced the press for the first time in Leipzig.
