Taylor Dent defeated defending champion Andy Roddick in devastating style to win the St Jude Classic in Memphis 6-1 6-4.
The 21-year-old American took just under an hour to finish off his compatriot and claim his second ATP title.
Australian Open semi-finalist Roddick just could not cope with Dent's powerful serve-and-volley game.
And Dent was delighted that his recent run of good form had taken him all the way to the success in the final.
"To play as well as I did and have a win is unbelievable," he said.
Roddick was only able to scrape three break points during the entire match and he had to wait until the eighth game of the second set for his opportunity.
But Dent managed to save all three points and then hold serve, winning the final game to love.
"Taylor played great all week," Roddick said.
"If he plays as well as he does today, I think he will be a top-10 player in no time."
Despite defeat, Roddick showed he is making good progress after suffering tendinitis in his wrist in Australia.
