Hawaii second round results

Spain's Gala Leon Garcia is through to the quarter-finals of the Big Island Championships with a 6-2 4-6 6-2 over Milagros Sequera of Venezuela.

It was another impressive result for Leon Garcia in Hawaii, who on Monday knocked out top seed Anne Kremer of Luxembourg in three sets.

She will next play the winner of the match between fifth seed Meilen Tu and Jill Craybas that was suspended because of darkness after two sets.

Craybas won the first set 7-6, and Tu took the second 6-2.

Leo Garcia was joined in the quarter-finals by America's Samantha Reeves, who beat third seed Barbara Schett of Austria 3-6 7-6 6-4.

"Anytime you can reach the quarter-finals it's great," said Reeves, who survived two match points to force the second-set tiebreaker.

"Once I won the second set, I thought to myself how awful it would be to put forth all that effort and lose.

"I just kept going for all my shots and kept telling myself if you go for it you have no regrets. That's what I did and it turned out my way."

Reeves will now face Belgium's Els Callens, a 2-6 7-5 7-6 winner over sixth-seeded Marissa Irvin of the United States.

In Wednesday's other second round match, Els Callens of Belgium beat sixth seed Marissa Irvin of the United States 2-6 7-5 7-6.
