Henin slumps to defeat
Justine Henin
Henin was seeded fourth at the Pilot Pen event

Justine Henin's US Open preparations took a blow when she was beaten in the second round of the Pilot Pen tournament in New Haven.

The Belgian fourth seed was beaten 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 by Anastasia Myskina of Russia at the final warm-up event before Flushing Meadows.

Henin is seeded eighth for the final Grand Slam of the year, which begins in New York next Monday.

And there was concern also for Jelena Dokic who made a last-minute withdrawal before her opening match against Switzerland's Patty Schnyder.

I think I'll be 100% for the Open
Jelena Dokic

Dokic failed to recover sufficiently from the hamstring injury suffered during her semi-final match with Jennifer Capriati at the Canadian Open last Saturday.

"I tried to practise and it wasn't feeling good," said Dokic.

"I'm trying now to get better for the US Open and still have a few days to go.

"I think I'll be 100% for the Open - it's not too painful but it's enough not to be able to play.

"Considering how much tennis I've played maybe it's good to take the week off."

Right now I'll just take any match, any challenge
Martina Hingis

Meanwhile, Martina Hingis ensured she will get some more vital match practice ahead of the US Open by beating Alexandra Stevenson.

Hingis, who is playing her second tournament since returning from injury, was a straight-sets winner over the American and she now faces Myskina in the quarter-finals.

Stevenson served seven aces to Hingis' one but was let down by her high tally of unforced errors.

Hingis said she was happy with her form since her comeback.

"I feel more comfortable out there now," she said.

"Right now, I'll just take any match, any challenge. I probably didn't play my best, but I won.

"When I needed to step it up I was able to do so."
