Capriati handed final spot
Second seed Jennifer Capriati moved into the final of the Canadian Open after her semi-final opponent Jelena Dokic retired injured.

Dokic needed treatment in the second set

American Capriati was leading 7-6 4-0 against the third seed in Montreal when the Yugoslav conceded the match.

She will meet Amelie Mauresmo of France in the final after the seventh seed's 6-2 7-6 victory over Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.

Dokic had received treatment eary in the second set against Capriati and later said she was suffering with a pain in her thigh.

"The more I played, the more I had to run and the worse it got," she said.

"I couldn't stay in, I couldn't run enough and couldn't make her play enough."

In the previous round, Dokic had cut short the comeback of Martina Hingis with a 6-4 6-3 victory.

Powerful serve

Capriati won the tournament as a 15-year-old in 1991, and was the runner-up last year.

The 26-year-old, who has not won a tournament since the Australian Open in January, said she was pleased with her form.

"It was very important to get that first set in, it was a very intense first set. I think it was the match right there," said Capriati.

"It was great hard hitting. Maybe there wasn't so much variety, but I think just off the baseline it was definitely a very high level."

Mauresmo was made to work harder for her victory after sailing through the first set with some powerful serving.

Eighth seed Hantuchova upped her game in the second set but could not convert two set points in the 12th game and Mauresmo won the tie-break 7-3.
