Agassi books semi spot
Andre Agassi
Agassi is in good form ahead of the US Open
Andre Agassi survived a scare to move into the semi-finals of the Legg Mason Classic in Washington with a 6-7 7-6 6-3 victory over Sweden's Thomas Enqvist.

Agassi will now play American sixth seed James Blake, who came back from 0-3 down in both sets to beat Spain's Alex Corretja 6-4 6-4.

"I served for the first (set) and he served for the second, and it was just one of those nights where it happened to be going my way," said Agassi.

"I just tried to make him play well and I was just interested in making him make great shots to win it."

Paradorn Srichaphan booked his semi-final place with a 6-3 7-5 win over Finland's Jarkko Nieminen.

Srichaphan, who knocked Agassi out of Wimbledon earlier in the summer, is chasing his first ATP Tour title.

"After my win yesterday against (Sjeng) Schalken I said to myself today that I'm just going on the court to have fun," said Srichaphan.

The 23-year-old Thai, seeded 14, will now face fifth seed Marcelo Rios after the Chilean came back to beat Brazil's Fernando Meligeni.

Meligeni, who knocked out America's Andy Roddick in the third round, took the first set 6-3 but Rios came back to win 3-6 6-4 7-5.

"The first two sets I didn't play well on the important games but I played well on my service games when I was down," said Rios.

"Once I got my chances to break I did it pretty well, especially when I was down 3-5 in the third set."

Legg Mason Classic quarter-final results:

Andre Agassi (USA, 1) bt Thomas Enqvist (Swe, 7) 6-7 7-6 6-3
Marcelo Rios (Chi, 5) bt Fernando Meligeni (Bra) 3-6 6-4 7-5
