Venus set for Roland Garros
Venus Williams
Venus was forced to pull out of the Italian Open
World number one Venus Williams is set to take part in the French Open after tour medical staff said that she should recover in time from a sprained right wrist.

The American was forced to withdraw from the Italian Open on Tuesday, just before the start of her second-round match with Russia's Anna Kournikova.

She has been diagnosed with a ligament sprain of the right wrist but hopes are high that she will play in Paris.

"Venus has been advised to continue with physiotherapy treatment and start practice next Monday," said WTA physiotherapist Philippa Stewart.

"She will probably be able to play at Roland Garros."
