Bovina lands maiden win
Elena Bovina won the Warsaw Cup
Bovina was little troubled by Nagyova
Unseeded Russian Elena Bovina beat top seed Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia to claim her first WTA singles crown in the Warsaw Cup.

The 19-year-old from Moscow dominated Sunday's clay court final from the outset and strolled to a 6-3 6-1 victory against an opponent ranked 44th in the world.

"I'm very happy because this is the first tournament I've won and happy to have done it in Warsaw," said Bovina, who hopes to improve on her third-round finish at last year's French Open later this month.

Bovina got off to a flying start, breaking her 23-year-old opponent's opening serve to rush to a 4-0 lead.

The Slovak bounced back to take the next game but Bovina held to take the set.

Nagyova, Warsaw Cup winner in 2000 and 1996, seemed to lift her game early in the second set but a string of errors handed several games she was leading to her opponent.

The top seed briefly came back to take the sixth game but it was a short-lived reprieve as Bovina wrapped up the set and the tournament in style.

Bovina's victory earned her 116 points that should move her up 20 places to 75th place in the WTA rankings.
