Three seeds crash out of cup
Lisa Raymond
Raymond lost her temper during the defeat
The three seeds in action on Monday in the first round of the Family Circle Cup all lost.

Lisa Raymond, Tatiana Panova and Francesca Schiavone were the victims of an opening day cull.

Raymond, the 14th seed and the number 24 player in the world, committed 49 unforced errors in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 loss to Nathalie Dechy.

It was her second consecutive opening-round loss as she fell in straight sets last week to wild card entrant Jill Craybas at the Bausch & Lomb Championships.

Both tournaments are played on a slower clay surface that takes some of the sting out of her serve-and-volley attack.

Raymond breezed through the first set and led 3-1 lead in the second.

But Dechy gradually took control simply by keeping the ball in play and waiting for her seeded opponent to make a mistake.

Raymond grew increasingly frustrated, slamming a ball into a back wall and throwing her racket to the ground.

Meilen Tu beat the 15th-seeded Panova 6-3, 6-4, while Marie-Gaiane Mikaelian defeated No. 17 Schiavone 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
