Jennifer Capriati battled her way to a 3-6 7-5 6-2 win over Russia's Anastasia Myskina to reach the fourth round of the Nasdaq-100 Open Masters. The world number one struggled with her form in a contest that saw 18 breaks of serve. In the last set, Capriati broke her 32nd ranked opponent four times to clinch the win. Capriati will now meet 15th seed Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan who advanced with 3-6 6-4 7-5 win over Japan's Ai Sugiyama. Venus Williams, who surrendered the number one ranking to Capriati last Monday, has given every indication she intends to reclaim top spot.
"I love winning but I would like to have won the whole match and not by retiring. But that's how it is sometimes," said Williams. Her sister, Serena, took just 46 minutes to secure victory over Katarina Srebotnik. Williams used her superior power against her Slovenian opponent to earn a comfortable 6-1 6-0 win. Srebotnik, currently 56th in the WTA rankings, failed to recapture the form which saw her prevail in Acapulco earlier in the year. And she was blown off by as Williams' superior fire power. Third seed Martina Hingis destroyed Belarussian Tatiana Poutcheck 6-0 6-1 to remain on course for a third Miami Masters crown. Hingis took just 18 minutes to speed her way through the first set and a 1-0 lead in the second before Poutcheck won her first game. Luxembourg's Anne Kremer continued her domination over Jelena Dokic beating the seventh seeded Yugoslav 6-3 6-1.
