Justine Henin and Meghann Shaughnessy became the latest top seeds to fall by the wayside at Indian Wells. Third seed Henin was swept aside 6-3 6-3 by Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova, while number six seed Shaughnessy was beaten 4-6 6-3 6-1 by Israel's Anna Smashnova. "She played so well, she was strong," said Henin. "I practised with her some days ago and I could feel she was playing well. "Maybe I was a little bit afraid of this match." The Williams sisters and Jennifer Capriati are not taking part, while top seed Kim Clijsters and top draw Anna Kournikova were early casualties. That leaves second seed, Martina Hingis and fourth seed Monica Seles as the only remaining top names. Hingis beat Zimbabwe's Cara Black 6-0 6-3 to take her place in the last eight. Seles had an even easier task, overcoming Japan's Ai Sugiyama 6-0 6-1.
