Fifth seed Davide Sanguinetti has set his sights on a second career title after reaching the final of the International Tennis Championships at Delray Beach.

The Italian, wearing a pair of borrowed sneakers, beat a tired Jan-Michael Gambill of the United States 7-6 6-3 in their semi-final on Saturday.

He will face American top seed Andy Roddick, who won his third match in two days stopping Anthony Dupuis of France 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in his semi-final.

Roddick despatched South Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee and Michael Llorda of France on Friday after rain delayed his second-round match.

Sanguinetti won his first tournament title in Milan in February and is determined to add to his tally.

"Now I am in the final and I would really like to win another tournament," he said. "I will do anything to win."

It's so effortless for him. I don't even know how he comes up with those strokes

The 29-year-old will meet either top-seeded American Andy Roddick or Anthony Dupuis of France.

Ranked 60th in the world, Sanguinetti initially served for the first set leading 5-4.

But he was forced into a change of footwear when the glue from the rubber sole on his shoes melted and a chunk of the sole fell off.

Switching to a pair of sneakers belonging to ATP trainer Bill Norris at the 6-5 changeover, Sanguinetti battled through an 18-point tiebreak to eventually take the set.

At 8-8 in the tiebreak, Gambill made two backhand errors and flung his racket toward his courtside seat in disgust.

Effortless

The American, who also reached the semi-finals at Memphis and San Jose in the past two weeks, had three tough three-set matches prior to his semi final.

"I was too tired out there and I didn't have it in my feet and even my arms hurt," Gambill said.

"His flat strokes give me trouble and he hits the ball so low and right through the court.

"It's so effortless for him. I don't even know how he comes up with those strokes."

At 4-3 down in the second set, Gambill lost his serve and Sanguinetti finished off the match in style.

ATP International Championships semi-final results:

Davide Sanguinetti (Ita, 5) bt Jan-Michael Gambill (USA, 2) 7-6 (10/8), 6-3
Andy Roddick (USA, 1) bt Anthony Dupuis (Fra) 7-6 (7/4), 6-4
