Double joy for super-fit Roddick
Andy Roddick beat two opponents on Friday
Top-seeded Andy Roddick won two matches on Friday to advance to the semi-finals of the
International Tennis Championships.
Roddick beat South Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee 7-5, 6-2 in a rain-delayed second-round match, then returned to top French left-hander Michael Llodra 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. "He came out and he was playing well," Roddick said of Llodra.
"You have to put a lot of energy into breaking him. He's talented, has great hands and a nasty serve. "I'm sure we're going to battle a lot during the next 10 years. "This is the first time since the juniors, the 14-and-unders that I had to play two matches in a day. "I was kind of looking forward to it to see where my fitness is at." Roddick will face France's Anthony Dupuis in the last four of the Delray Beach tournament. Cool head Dupuis enjoyed a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) win over Spanish qualifier Feliciano Lopez. "I just kept my cool and did my best," said Dupuis. "He's a bit young. Maybe he's a little bit crazy with the shots he tried." Prior to coming to Delray Beach, the 82nd-ranked Dupuis had won only one match at a tour level event all year. Fifth seed Davide Sanguinetti is also into the last four after battling through against Thailand's Paradom Srichapan 6-4 3-6 6-3. Second-seeded Jan-Michael Gambill, the defending champion, beat Brazil's Andre Sa in the other quarter-final, (2) 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-4.
