Seeds progress in Austria
Magdalena Maleeva
Maleeva went through in straight sets
Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva defeated Paola Suarez of Argentina 7-5 6-1 to advance to the second round of the £397,000 Generali Ladies Linz WTA tournament.

Croatia's Iva Majoli also went through after a struggle with Austrian wild-card entry Evelyn Faith.

Faith took the first set and was leading 4-1 and 40-0 in the sixth game before she sacrificed three break points and let Majoli back in.

Faith then advanced to 5-2 before her game fell apart and Majoli took control to emerge the 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 winner.

Chandra Rubin of the United States had a trouble free 6-2 6-1 win over Slovakia's Henrieta Nagyova.

Elsewhere, third seed Amanda Coetzer cruised into the second round of the Seat Open with a straight sets victory over Germany's Barbara Rittner.

Coetzer won 6-2 6-2 with a performance that suggests she could be a serious contender for the title she won in 1997.

Kveta Hrdlickova of the Czech Republic overcame Lilia Osterloh of the United States 6-2 6-2.

And Patty Schnyder of Switzerland out-lasted Gala Leon Garcia in a first set tie-break, then overwhelmed the Spaniard in the second set to finish the match 7-6 6-0.
