Andre Agassi
Andre Agassi in action
Agassi has won each of the four Grand Slam titles
Date of birth: 29/04/1970
Nationality: American
Grand slams: Australian Open 1995, 2000, 2001; French Open 1999; Wimbledon 1992; US Open 1994, 1999

An all-court player, Andre Agassi is one of only five players in the history of tennis to have won all four Grand Slam titles.

Apart from his seven victories, Agassi has been runner-up in seven further Grand Slam finals.

The Las Vegan is quick, agile, has blistering power and the ability to find more angles than anyone else on the circuit.

Despite his position as one of the elder statesmen of the ATP tour, Agassi has probably never been fitter.

Agassi's longevity is all the more remarkable for the fact that his career at the top appeared to be over when his world ranking slid to 141 in 1997.

That year he failed to reach the final of a single tour event and the US Open was the only Grand Slam he played.

But the following year he made the biggest one-year jump into the top 10 in ATP history, and in 1999 he topped the end of season world rankings for the first time in his career.

Along with Pete Sampras, Agassi has dominated men's tennis for more than 10 years.

His appearance against his old foe in this year's US Open final suggested there is more to come.
