France's Nathalie Tauziat and Amelie Mauresmo have reached the second round of the Porsche Grand Prix Filderstadt in contrasting fashion.

Fifth seed Mauresmo dominated throughout in defeating Daja Bedanova of the Czech Republic 6-3 6-1.

But seventh seed Tauziat was made to work a little harder in her 6-4 3-6 6-3 win over America's Lisa Raymond.

She won the first set and then lost her way to lose the second but fought hard to regain her advantage to claim the victory.

It was not such a good day for Spanish veteran Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario.

She lost to Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva 7-5 7-5.

Result's from Monday's action in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix:

N Tauziat (Fra) bt L Raymond (USA) 6-4 3-6 6-3
A Mauresmo (Fra) bt D Bedanova (Cze) 6-3 6-1
M Maleeva (Bul) bt A Sanchez-Vicario (Spa) 7-5 7-5
