Kafelnikov cruises through
Kafelnikov has only beaten Johansson five times
Yevgeny Kafelnikov moved to within two matches of a sixth successive Kremlin Cup title in Moscow.
The Russian saved two break points in the opening game before securing a 6-3 7-5 victory over Thomas Johansson - his 22nd consecutive win at the event. It was the top seed's first victory over the Swede in nine matches. Kafelnikov will face Germany's fourth seed Tommy Haas, who easily beat another Swede, the veteran qualifier Magnus Gustafsson, 6-1 6-4. In the other semi-final, Slovakia's Dominik Hrbaty will meet Nicolas Kiefer of Germany. Hrbaty came back from one set down to beat the Czech Republic's Jiri Novak 5-7 6-4 6-3. Kiefer saw off Marc Rosset of Switzerland 6-3 7-6.
