Hewitt reflects on tragedy
US Open winner Lletyon Hewitt with the trophy
Hewitt beat Sampras last week in straight sets
US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt has reflected on the tragic events in America since returning to Australia.

Hewitt beat Pete Sampras at Flushing Meadows in New York last weekend to claim his first Grand Slam title.

He was on board the last flight from New York to Australia before all flights in the United States were cancelled.

Hewitt and his fellow passengers were told of the atrocities as they landed in Sydney.

"It sort of throws everything into perspective a little bit more," Hewitt said.

"It's great that I have won a few tennis matches and that but there is a lot more ... than tennis matches, that's for sure, when you look at the bigger picture and life in general.

"There's going to be that added fear. It sort of does hit home because you are travelling week in and week out," Hewitt added.
