Rusedski falls to Agassi
Agassi serves up a storm in Washington DC
Greg Rusedski lost consecutive tie-breaks to Andre Agassi as he crashed out of the Legg Mason Classic on Friday.
The Canadian-born left-hander powered to a one-set lead but was unable to put away the top seed, eventually going down 3-6 7-6 7-6 in a hard-fought quarter-final in Washington DC. Both tie-breakers were desperately close, with Agassi stealing the first 8-6 and the second 10-8. "I thought I had a really good chance," said Rusedski afterwards. "There were a few interesting calls in the second set. It seems like the top guys always get the calls." Agassi dismissed the latter observation as "absurd." "I can assure you I get my share of bad calls. That was just, from any standpoint, a hard-fought great quality tennis match." Roddick revels The American now faces 10th seed Sjeng Schalken in the last four, after the Dutchman beat Jerome Golmard, of France, 4-6 6-4 6-2. The second semi-final will be an all-American affair between Michael Chang and Andy Roddick. Chang upset fourth-seeded Frenchman Fabrice Santoro 6-2 6-4, while Roddick, the ninth seed, earned a 6-3 6-4 victory over Chile's former world number one, Marcelo Rios. "It was a pretty clean match today, there weren't any up-and-downs," said an elated Roddick afterwards. |
