Huber ousts Mauresmo
Germany's Anke Huber
Heavy rain interrupted many of Thursday's matches
Germany's Anke Huber upset third-seeded Amelie Mauresmo, of France, in the rain-struck Rogers AT&T Cup in Toronto.

Huber, who had lost twice to Mauresmo this year, prevailed 6-3 6-3 and will now play the winner of the Amanda Coetzer versus Jennifer Hopkins match in the quarter-finals.

The 26-year-old has announced her plans to retire from the game after next year's Australian Open, but was happy with her performance.

"I tried to mix it up a little bit with some high balls and try to make her move" said Huber: "I knew what to do today."

Shortly after the match was completed, heavy rain postponed five of the afternoon's remaining singles matches.

In fact, the only other match to be completed on Thursday was second-seeded Justine Henin's victory over America's Amy Frazier 6-3 6-2.

Matches rescheduled for Friday include: Monica Seles against Jelena Dokic; Serena Williams against Barbara Schett; Amanda Coetzer against qualifier Jennifer Hopkins; Meghann Shaughnessy against Daja Bedanova and Elena Dementieva of Russia against Sandrine Testud.
