Mirnyi knocks out Kafelnikov
![]() Ninth seed Thomas Johansson beat Harel Levy of Israel
Yevgeny Kafelnikov was the highest-profile casualty in the second round of the RCA Championships in Indianapolis on Tuesday.
The fourth seed from Russia was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Max Mirnyi, of Belarus. Despite losing the first set, an out-of-sorts Marat Safin struggled past Andre Sa and into the third round. Safin, the second seed who has won 21 and lost 21 matches so far this year, beat the Brazilian 4-6 6-2 6-3. Eighth seed Thomas Enqvist of Sweden was another second-round victor, beating Alexander Popp of Germany 7-6 3-6 6-4. Tuesday's first-round victories included a 6-3 6-3 success for ninth seed Thomas Johansson of Sweden against Harel Levy of Israel. Hicham Arazi, the number 13 seed from Morocco, beat Ota Fukarek of the Czech Republic 7-6 6-2.
