Martin withdraws from Indianapolis
Todd Martin with his injured right knee
Injured right knee comes back to haunt Todd
Todd Martin has withdrawn from the $700,000 (£500,000) Indianapolis Championships because of a knee injury.

The twelfth seed had been scheduled to play his first round on Tuesday but after a Monday practice session he decided to pull out.

"I bruised my knee in my first round match last week in Cincinnati and it locked on me Thursday," said Martin.

The 31-year-old American aggravated an injury he suffered last week at the Tennis Masters Series in Ohio.

Martin, a former Australian and US Open runner-up, now plans to get treatment over the next couple of days.

He will then be heading to New York for the US Open.

Martin was replaced by lucky loser Cyril Saulnier, from France.
