Barbara Rittner let the lead slip against Anke Huber
Anke Huber and Jelena Dokic are safely through to the second stage of the Rogers AT&T Cup in Toronto.

Huber, the number 14 seed, beat compatriot Barbara Rittner 2-6 6-3 6-3 while tenth seed Dokic overcame a slow start to defeat Nadia Petrova 6-7 7-5 6-1

The pair will be joined in the next round by eleventh seed Sandrine Testud, who saw off Virginia Ruano Pascual 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Huber has said she will retire after the 2002 Australian Open.

The 26-year-old is making her ninth consecutive apperance at the Toronto event where she reached the final in 1997 only to lose to Monica Seles.

Injuries have forced such stars as Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport to miss the tournament leaving top seed Jennifer Capriati as the only top-five player taking part.

But despite the absence of the main contenders, Canadians Vanessa Webb and Maureen Drake couldn't take advantage in front of their home crowd.

Argentina's Mariana Diaz-Oliva beat Webb 3-6 7-5 6-1 while Australian Evie Dominikovic defeated Drake 6-1 7-6.
