Tauziat seals final victory
Natalie Tauziat with the Classic trophy
Tauziat retires from the WTA Tour this season
Natalie Tauziat took her second DFS Classic title on Monday on her 15th and final appearance at the Edgbaston grass-court event.

Tauziat beat Holland's Miriam Oremans 6-3 7-5 in a final held over to Monday due to rain.

The 33-year-old Frenchwoman retires from the WTA Tour at the end of this season and was keen to play down her chances of winning a first Grand Slam event at Wimbledon.

"I'm ready for Wimbledon but I just want to play there and have some fun," said Tauziat.

"Everyone says I can win Wimbledon but I don't want to put any pressure on myself so I haven't set any goals for this year."

Tauziat's performance was typical of her play throughout the week, mixing effective returns and passing shots with inconsistent unforced errors.

Tauziat survived break points in her first two service games and grabbed the crucial break in the sixth game of the first set when Oremans double-faulted.

The favourite then raced into a seemingly unassailable 5-1 second set lead with a brilliant display, but as she tried to close out the match the unforced errors crept in.

Oremans took advantage and broke the Tauziat serve twice with some blistering returns of her own.

But Tauziat recovered to break back and successfully served out for the championship at the third attempt in front of a sparse but appreciative crowd.
