A Sanchez-Vicario (Spa) bt M Hingis (Swi) World number one Martina Hingis suffered at the hands of Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario at the quarter-final stage of the Bausch & Lomb Championships. The Spaniard, who had lost her last 15 encounters against her Swiss opponent, was always on to on clay in Florida. "I love it here," said Sanchez-Vicario. "You learn from the other previous matches we played. I approached the match knowing I had to be more aggressive and take chances. Hingis frustration "I think I surprised her and I was very comfortable on the court." The two-time winner of the tournament always looked in control over Hingis, playing a number of exquisite drop shots that left the Swiss player frustrated and swiping the ground with her racket. Hingis looked to have found her rhythm after the opening disaster as she took a 3-1 lead in the second set, only for Sanchez-Vicario to break back. The Spaniard's next opponent, Mauresmo, received a walkover when third-seeded Elena Dementieva was forced to forfeit her quarter-final due to a heel injury.
