Scottsdale success for Davenport
![]() The powerful Davenport was too strong for Shaughnessy
L Davenport beat M Shaughnessy 6-2 6-3
Top seed Lindsay Davenport outclassed hometown favourite Meghann Shaughnessy in straight sets to win the State Farm Women's Tennis Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Sunday. The game was decided in little over an hour as Davenport's powerful and precise serve produced 10 aces. "From the first game I felt on top of my game and I felt very confident," said Davenport. "I felt I was able to go after the ball and hit with authority today."
Shaughnessy strained her right groin muscle in the second set and lost four of the final five games. "Lindsay really played well today and there was nothing I could do," said Shaughnessy after the match. The runner-up spot moves Shaughnessy to a career-high 24th on the WTA Tour rankings. The win is Davenport's second WTA victory of the year and earns the world number two $90,000. Despite the ease of her success, the three-time Grand Slam event winner has not become complacent in victory. "Winning titles is what it's all about," said Davenport.
