Mark Philippoussis
Philippoussis: Back after a serious knee injury
M Philippoussis (Aus) bt Davide Sanguinetti 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 6-3

Mark Philippoussis overcame a lapse in concentration to beat Italy's Davide Sanguinetti and win his second Kroger St Jude title in Memphis.

Seeking his first ATP title, Sanguinetti was hampered by back pain early in the match and called for the trainer during the first set.

Philippoussis then appeared ready to close out his ailing opponent after winning the first three points of the second-set tie-break.

But he fell apart and allowed Sanguinetti to get back in the match.

However, Sanguinetti continued to struggle with his injury.

Although he battled on bravely, it was only a matter of time before the big-serving Australian closed out the set and the match.

It was the first tournament of 2001 for Philippoussis, who underwent knee surgery last year.
