Davenport downs Hingis
Martina Hingis moves into the final
Martina Hingis had no answer for Davenport's power
Lindsay Davenport has claimed her second Pan Pacific Open title in Tokyo, beating the world number one Martina Hingis in the final.

The American recovered from dropping the opening set in a tie break to emerge triumphant 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-2 and re-claim the title she won in 1998.

The second seed fired 14 aces to deny Hingis her fourth triumph in the event.

With her first title of the season, and the 31st of her career, Davenport avenged her three-set loss to Hingis in Sydney last month, and collected almost £119,000 in prize money.

Davenport had Hingis on the ropes for most of the match but had trouble delivering the knock-out punch as Hingis took the first set and keep the second set close.

In the third set, Davenport broke Hingis twice to claim the title.

"It was a very tough match and there wasn't much difference between us," Davenport said.

It was the 16th time the pair had met in a final - Davenport has now won 10 of those contests.
