Swiss smash Thais in Hopman Cup
Hingis and Federer, the Swiss Hopman Cup team
Hingis and Federer, the Swiss Hopman Cup team
Top seeds Switzerland had no trouble disposing of Thailand in the opening clash of the Hopman Cup.

World number one Martina Hingis had far too much class for Tamarine Tanasugarn, ranked 29th, as she blitzed her opponent in straight sets, 6-1 6-1.

The match took just 44 minutes.

Hingis dominated to such a degree that she won 10 games in a row at one point.

Then Roger Federer overcame Paradorn Srichaphan, 6-4, 6-2 in 65 minutes.

Unseeded Thailand caused a major upset by reaching the final of the competition last year before losing to the South African pair of Wayne Ferreira and Amanda Coetzer.

But there was no such fairytale result for them this time.
