Brits top world junior list
James Nelson and Lee Childs won a US Open title
James Nelson and Lee Childs won a US Open title
British tennis hopeful Lee Childs has capped of a successful season after he and team-mate James Nelson were crowned top junior doubles players in the world.

Childs and Nelson have finished top of the International Tennis Federation's rankings - the first such achievement by a British pair since the rankings began 18 years ago.

Somerset star Childs made national headlines at the Samsung Open in Brighton earlier in December when, in his first ATP Tour match, he beat world-class Armenian Sargis Sargsian in the first round.

The pair also won the boy's title of the US Open Championships at Flushing Meadows in September.

They will be pushing hard for senior honours in the very near future
  Coach Danny Sapsford

Danny Sapsford, coach of both Childs and Nelson, said: "The acclaim that this award will give to the boys is well deserved for all the hard work and commitment they have put into their game over the last year.

"But we do not want it to stop there - they will be pushing hard for senior honours in the very near future."
