Tuning up for the World Cup

Scotland's rugby players have recorded their own official World Cup song, going one better than England whose Swing Low ditty will be sung by UB40.

The Scots joined forces with Donnie Munro, the former lead singer of Runrig, to record their tune for this autumn's tournament.

But we want to know what songs you would choose for teams in the World Cup.

To get oval the ball rolling, how about Hot Chocolate's I Believe in Miracles for Wales, Final Countdown by Europe for England, Wings' With a Little Luck for Ireland, and Road to Nowhere by Talking Heads for Scotland.

Or, now we're warming up, Saturday night's alright (for fighting) by Elton John for South Africa, AC/DC's Back in Black for New Zealand, or End of the Road by Boyz II Men for Australia.

Now it's over to you.

Have Your Say using the form on the right-hand side of the page.

The World's Greatest by R Kelly for England.
Beckie Waine, Ashford, Kent

How about The Bitterest Pill by The Jam for all the Welsh fans? Could double up for a few of the NZ fans as well, like Peter from Covenrty.
Richard Stockwell, Manchester

Silence is Golden, for any of the Antipodeans, Welsh or Scots. And for the ultimate clash between the All Blacks and England, Chris Rea's The Road to Hell.
Grant, England

Glad to see the English Broadcasting Corp (when did you change name?) supporting its fellow UK nations so fervently. Wonder why no one supports Ingerlund?!

How about: Living on a Prayer (England); I believe in miracles (England); Supreme (NZ).
Donald Barlow, Not England

England - Tears on my Pillow.
Cymru Taff, Cymru

Looking at some of the arrogant comments from England fans, perhaps they ought to record Carly Simon's "You're so Vain".
David Petrie, London/Scotland

A little tune for Mr Campese: 'Shaddapaya Face' by Joe Dolce!
Andrew, Hampshire

Jethro Tull's "Living in the Past" for New Zealand
John Masters, England
How about some Sinatra classics? "My way" for Woodward, "All Or Nothing At All", "It Was A Very Good Year" and "The Best Is Yet To Come" for the English boys, "I Get A Kick Out Of You" for the Springboks and "Send In The Clowns" for our Welsh friends!
Richard, Hampshire

What about "Fields of Gold" by Sting for the Irish, because everything the Irish pack will touch is going to turn to gold!
Patrick, Limerick,Ireland

Deep Down & Dirty by the Stereo MC's for South Africa.
Craig, Guildford

'Say Hello and Wave Goodbye' for Wales.
Barny, England

"Don't Cry for me Argentina" for an injured Noriega (Australia's best player to come out of South America). "Faceless Man" by creed for Johnny Wilkinson post South African game. "Charmless Man" by Blur for Steve Hansen. "Memories" for Wales.
Stephen Smith, Aberdeen (Welshman)

Jethro Tull's "Living in the Past" for New Zealand, "It's now or never" (various artists) for England, "Stuck in the Middle" by Stealer's Wheel for Wales, and definitely "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen for South Africa.
John Masters, England

For all teams playing England how about "I hate everything about you" by Ugly Kid Joe- especially for people like Mark who don't get that NZ is also a Pacific Island, and just because someone has Samoan or Fijian ancestry they can still be Kiwis.

England - not a song, but an album by Dougie Mclean: "Whitewash"
Ben, England

Should we ban all Kiwis with English ancestry too? Maybe ban Martin Johnson because he played for NZ youth teams?
Paul, London

For Wales, how about 'That Don't Impress Me Much' by Shania Twain or 'Help' by The Beatles.
Andrew Tidey, Abertillery, South Wales

England - not a song, but an album by Dougie Mclean: "Whitewash". Continuing that theme, the Kiwis should use "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones. And for the Aussies, something suitably ridiculous like, say, Waltzing Matilda. Oh wait, they use that already.
Ben, England

UB40's "Red Red Whine" would do for either England or Australia.
Ed, UK

England - "Loser" by Beck.
Australia - "Dreamer" by Super Tramp.
All Blacks - "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive or "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate for the backline.
Julian, Kiwi in Japan

NZ - bad moon rising (CCR).
OZ - It's the End of the World as we Know It (REM).
SA - Rock You Like a Hurricane (Scorpians).
England - Girls, Girls Girls or White Wedding (Billy Idol).
France - Wake me up (Wham).

DA, SH

Australia "Better Shape Up" from the Grease soundtrack - come on boys!!!!
For the Aussie supporters - "Cold Beverages" by G Love and the Special Sauce - you better bring your drinking boots down under!!
England - "Every Rose has its Thorn", Guns n Roses.
Peter Dzodz, Melbourne

"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" when the Aussies lose their opening game
Chris, Egypt

For rugby lovers, "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits and "RESPECT" by Aretha Franklin. For player haters, "Idiot Wind" by Bob Dylan.
Emmett, Wellington, NZ

England - Respect by Aretha Franklin.
Scotland - There by the Grace of God by Manic Street Preachers.
Ireland - Lucky by Britney Spears.
Australia - It's Over by Roy Orbison.
New Zealand - Fallen Star by Snoop Dogg.
Wales - Dream a Little Dream by Mama Cass, or perhaps I Will Surivive by Gloria Gaynor; well, we need to think optimistically don't we?!
Holly, Wales

For England - 'Let Down' or 'Nice Dream' by Radiohead. For NZ - 'Bring Me Your Cup' UB40 or 'This Will be My Year' Semisonic.
Gillespi, NZ

As a Kiwi, I have to suggest a few Neil Finn/Crowded House numbers: "Don't Dream It's Over" should get a lot of airtime, "Seven Worlds Collide" for the quarter-finals (should be eight, I know) and "Last One Standing" for the final ("and you are magnificent... you're the last one standing").

Of course, if the ABs don't bring back the gold, I'll be listening to REM... "it's the end of the world as we know it..."
Matt, USA/NZ

"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" when the Aussies lose their opening game, then "Under Pressure" by Queen as they struggle through their group. "Careless Whisper" for the All Blacks.

"I Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode or "Respect" by Erasure for England. "Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver for the Welsh.
Chris, Egypt

The Scots should get Del Amitri to re-release 'Don't Come Home Too Soon'
Dave, Devon

Australia, "Big Mouth Strikes Again" by The Smiths. Wales, "Panic" by The Smiths. Scotland, "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" by The Smiths. South Africa, "Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody Loved Me" by, er, The Smiths.
Ian, England

For every team playing South Africa it would have to be REM's "Everybody Hurts" and for all those watching Jason Robinson sweep past them for the try line, Elton John's line "Goodbye England's Rose"
Chris, US

For all the fatboys in every country's front row - 'I am the Walrus' by the Beatles
Simon, Plymouth

For Australia - 'Yesterday' by The Beatles.
Gary, Plymouth, England

The Scots should get Del Amitri to re-release the 'Don't Come Home Too Soon' song. Come to think of it, they might as well do a duet with the Welsh...
Dave, Devon

'Break on through (to the other side)' - The Doors or 'You will be Mine' by Guns n Roses for England. 'Cry' by Godley & Cream for Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

'The Unforgiven' by Metalica for NZ (it will be the Kiwi public attitude if they don't win the RWC). Still one questions that should be asked; why UB40? If ever a group could be chosen to ruin a song it would be UB40.
Julian, England

Numb by U2 (as that's how the English will feel after the walloping they will receive from New Zealand).
Jamie Collins, Aberdeen (I'm Irish)

For Scotland, David Grey - Say Hello Wave Goodbye
Dave, UK

Starship's: "And we can build this dream together, standing strong forever, nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now" for England.
Andrew, UK

Wales: I need a miracle - Fragma.
Scotland: Road to Hell - Chris Rea.
Ireland: Bye Bye Bye - N'Sync.
New Zealand: Why Worry - Dire Straits.
Rhys Forward, York

A re-working of the classic 'Stand by Your Man' to read 'Stamp on Your Man' for the All Blacks (after the Josh Lewsey incident).
Lucy Smith, Middlesbrough

For Wales, David Grey - We're not right.
For Australia, Justin Timberlake - Never Again.
For England, Bee Gees - You Win Again.
For NZ, Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What you Want.
For Scotland, David Grey - Say Hello Wave Goodbye.

Dave, UK

For the Kiwis: "I Believe I Can Fly", but we know Kiwi birds can't! South Africa: "Friday Night I Crashed Your Party" by Billy Joel. England: "Never Gonna Get it, never Gonna Get It, Never Gonna Get It, Never Get It!"

And a prep up song for Australia: "We are the champions my friend, and we'll keep on fighting till the end."
Ali Evans, Australia

Wales - Anything is Possible (Will Young).
New Zealand - Little Less Conversation a Little More Action (Elvis).
England - The Long and Winding Road (Beatles).

fact here
Australia - Someone's come along and burst our bubble.
fact here
France - We Got High Hopes (Frank Sinatra).
fact here
Italy - Help (The Beatles).
fact here
Ireland - Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Wizard of Oz).
Rob, Bristol

"Fists Of Fury" by Terrorvision - South Africa
Pete, Wales

Dreams by Fleetwood Mac, Dreamer by Ozzy Osbourne - England (that's all their World Cup hopes are). Wales, and Steve Hansen in particular -Should I Stay Or Should I Go? By The Clash.

Australia - "Australia" by Manic Street Preachers (obviously!) Any side that plays England - "As Long As We Beat The English" by Stereophonics.

Pacific Island Sides - "Come Together" by The Beatles. "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions" by Queen - New Zealand. "Fists Of Fury" by Terrorvision - South Africa.
Pete, Wales

"Fools Gold" by the Stone Roses for England.
Matt, Cardiff

England will be singing, "It's So Easy" by Guns n Roses after the final.
Mike Quinn, Welton

This song would be appropriate to every team except for England, "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. One for Wales: "OH WELL" by Fleetwood Mac.
Mike Quinn, Welton

I dont know the name of the song or the artist but, for Scotland, there can be no other songs that may suit them better than the one with the chorus, "nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, WEY HEY HEY, GOODBYE!!" Could come in handy after the group stages.
Mike Quinn, Welton

I think the best song for England would have to be: "Daydream Believer"
Alwyn, Somerset

"Men in Black", by Will Smith for the New Zealand team, and also "Precious Illusions" by Alanis Morissette. For Wales "The Nobodies" by Marilyn Manson. And for England "I hate to say I told you so" by The Hives.
Jack, England

I think the best song for England would have to be: "Daydream Believer". For the All Blacks: "Addams Family" by MC Hammer - not the prettiest outfit but it works.

For the Boks: "Jailbreak" by Thin Lizzy - anything is possible! The Aussies: "Look what they've done to my song, Ma!" - Quiet George! And the French: "Without Me" by Enimem - they might not win it, but it won't be a World Cup without them!
Alwyn, Somerset

Chumbawumba: "I get knocked down"...for Wales.
Mark, Reading, England

Wales: 'I'm a Believer'! (Because I believe in them...I have to, I'm Welsh!) England: 'Nothing' by A ((rock song!!) cos they'll go home with nothing. New Zealand: 'We are the Champions!'

Australia: 'Under Pressure' then 'Another One Bites the Dust!' Scotland: 'Loser' by 3 Doors Down (another rock song!!!)
Gav, S. Wales

Oasis's "Don't Look Back in Anger" for New Zealand when they fail once more
Dom, UK

What about "Hopelessly Addicted" by the Corrs for Wales, or Busted's "Year 3000" as it'll take them that long to win their next match!! The Fiji national anthem for New Zealand, "Whinging Matilda" for Australia and "Let's Get Ready To Rumble" by PJ & Duncan for South Africa.
Tim, England

For Australia, it has to be D:REAM: "Things can only get better". England is "Fools Gold" by the Stone Roses due to the NZ return to form.

NZ: "Leader of the Pack" by the Shangri La's and my dearly beloved Scotland must be "I Believe in Miracles" by The Ramones.
Gordon Woodburn, York

Oasis's "Don't Look Back in Anger" for New Zealand when they fail once more. Or "Another one bites the dust!".
Dom, UK

For the All Blacks it has to be the Haka "Ka Mate" attributed to the Maori chief Te Rauparaha.

And as for Mark of London's comment on the ABs so called reliance on Pacific Islanders is he suggesting that the ABs should exclude Tongan New Zealanders, Samoan New Zealanders etc?
Peter, Coventry

For England supporters before the World Cup: "We Are the Champions" by Queen; After the World Cup: "Sadness part 3" by Enigma.
Tony, Auckland

For England, it can only be "We're Gonna Win" by Bryan Adams
Adam Nutley, London

I think Robbie Williams' "Angels" for South Africa and "I'm Every Woman" for all the NZ backs. But then again, I'm probably just being ironic and English.
Dominic, UK

For Wales..."Help" by the Beatles.
Huw Williams, Wales

For England, it can only be "We're Gonna Win" by Bryan Adams. Ireland and Scotland both get Radiohead songs; "Lucky" for Ireland and "Let Down" for Scotland.

For Wales, "Long and Winding Road" (back to Wales) by the Beatles, for New Zealand "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics, and for South Africa "Appetite for Destruction" by Guns 'n' Roses.

Australia fans won't be able to learn the lyrics for anything other than "Waltzing Matilda" in time for the World Cup.
Adam Nutley, London

For the competition as a whole, how about "It's Only Ruck and Maul, But I Like It" by the Rolling Stones.
Aadam Lloyd, Christian Malford, England

"Same Old Song and Dance" Aerosmith for NZ, "Going Down" by Mel C for Australia, "I Should be So Lucky" Kylie for Laurence Dallaglio and "Those Were The Days My Friend" for England!!
Mark Winter, Bristol

What about "I Need a Miracle" for the Scottish team
Neil William Gray, Ulster

It has to be the theme to Dad's Army! That's how Kefu described the England team. Maybe the lyrics could be slightly changed to, "Who do you think you are kidding Mister Kefu, if you think old England's done".
David Searle, UK

"Perfect 10" (The Beautiful South) - for England's Wilko, "Sweet Dreams" (Eurythmics) for New Zealand, and Boy George's "Crying Game" for Wales. Status Quo's "Ruckin' All Over The World" for the mighty England!
Mark, Reading, England

Well for shooting one's mouth off too early, I would say "You Talk Too Much" for England by George Thoroughgood.
Daniel, Canberra, Australia

What about "I Need a Miracle" for the Scottish team and Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" for Ireland; Wales could use "Loser" by Wheatus.
Neil William Gray, Ulster

What about "Bad Habits" for South Africa?
Ali Evans, Australia

How about Queen's "We Will Rock You" for South Africa or maybe Christina Aguilera's song "Fighter". Both of them suit very well. For England "Daydream Believer" and for New Zealand "Simply the Best"
Josh, Wales

Australia - Straight Back Down To Earth (Curiosity Killed The Cat)
George, Barbados
What about the following for South Africa: "Dirty" by Christina Aguilera; "Uptight" by Stevie Wonder; "Yesterday" by the Beatles; "Streetfighting Man" by the Rolling Stones. Poor old South Africa!

Jim, HK

How about 'Everyone's A Winner' by Hot Chocolate for England, because we will not lose one single game come October.
Colin Hall, Flitwick, Bedfordshire

For those Kiwi's out there who think England have got no chance, I feel they'll be singing "Bittersweet Symphony"
Brendan, London, UK
England to release in Australia Joe Dolci's "Ah shutuppa your face", David Campese will release a cover of "sorry seems to be the hardest word" in the UK after the world cup as an apology to all England fans for his criticism of the England team, and Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to release "You Win Again" by the Bee Gees as a tribute to the England team.
Daniel Ward, Eastbourne, UK

For those Kiwi's out there who think England have got no chance, I feel they'll be singing "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve by the end of the tournament. As for the Aussies...I think "Yellow" by Coldplay says a lot about their shirt colours, and attitude, with former winger Campese's cowardly snipes at the England team.
Brendan, London, UK

For New Zealand "Homeward Bound"(empty handed again) by Simon & Garfunkel or "Help" (we've got no plan B or kicker!) by The Beatles.
Greg, England

"I'm a Believer" for England. "Give it Away" by the RHCP for Australia!
Rebecca JP, Cambridge, England

"You don't impress me much" by Shania Twain for all the Tri-Nations teams.
Simon King, UK

How about "Achy Breaky Heart" for the English supporters!
Simon, UK (Kiwi)
For all the teams to meet England, it must be "Shot Down In A Blaze of Glory" by Bon Jovi.
Steve Farrer, Herts

Wales - 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' by The Smiths.
Craig, Guildford(Welsh)

England - 'Mr Robinson' by Simon & Garfunkel.
Craig, Guildford(Welsh)

For Wales it would have to be Radiohead - just chorus "you do it to yourself you do and that's why it really hurts!"
Dave Haigh, Rhondda, South Wales

"Never gonna get it" for England. The words just fit so right!
MB, South Wales

How about "Achy Breaky Heart" for the English supporters!
Simon, UK (Kiwi)

England has to be "Dreamer" by Supertramp.
Tim, Kiwi in the UK

Magicial Mystery Tour by The Beatles for Scotland
Neil Johnstone, London
I think for Wales they should have "The Great Pretender" by Freddie Mercury, for Scotland "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" by Oasis and for France a classic, "Livin' On a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. For Ireland I think "When The Going Gets Tough The Tough Get Going" and for England "We Are The Champions" by Queen.

The southern hemisphere - South Africa "You've Got To Fight For Your Right To Party" by the Beastie Boys, for New Zealand "Don't Look Back In Anger" by Oasis and finally for Australia, "Too Bad" by Nickelback.

Timbo, UK

How about "I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends" for the All Blacks due to their not insignificant reliance on Pacific Islanders?
Mark, London

For England: "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon, "Johnny B Goode" by Elvis or "Fat-Bottomed Girls" by Queen.

For Ireland: "Knock on Wood" by James Brown, "Green, Green Grass of Home" by Tom Jones or, as it's in Australia, how about "Waltzing O'Driscoll".

For Wales, Scotland and the other teams making up numbers: "Day Tripper" by The Beatles.
Jamie Weir, Ireland

Magicial Mystery Tour by The Beatles for Scotland. You never know what's going to happen!
