Time for more trophies in rugby league?
Does rugby league need more silverware to raise the sport's profile?
BBC Sport rugby league commentator Ray French calls for another domestic cup competition.

Do you agree?

The Challenge Cup and Super League represent the only two pieces of silverware available in the nine-month season and French believes this is leading to a lack of interest in the game.

Most other domestic sports offer three or four cup competitions, which help to maintain interest for the fans throughout the year.

French believes league should follow union's lead and introduce another competition with a European dimension like the Heineken Cup - a tournament based on a mini league format before a knockout system.

Is it time for a shake-up of the game?

I would just like to say one thing to Mr French: The Worthington Cup. This competition is not taken seriously by the big clubs and their fans in a sport that, I hate to say, is in a much stronger position.

Another competition will add to the problems suffered by teams with smaller squads. St Helens for example would be put under the spot light further if they are not able to field strong teams. Maybe a solution would be to have a 'minor final' for the lower half of the table. Thus giving all of the league something to play for until the last day of the season.

There should be another cup and they should put it in the middle of the season so there is a rest time for some of the players. But unlike Ray French's idea there should not be two of the big four in one group like there is in his with Saints and Wigan in group three.

This is the done in football and it would stop teams cheapening the game like Saints (my team) and Wigan did by putting out weakened side in Super League the week before a final.
