Is Ferrari force too strong?
Michael Schumacher and team-mate Rubens Barrichello make it a one-two for Ferrari at Imola.
Schumacher cruised to his third victory in four races, giving the German a commanding lead in the Formula One world championship. Schumacher's team-mate Rubens Barrichello made it a one-two for Ferrari, ahead of the BMW Williams drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya. Ferrari now lead the constructors' championship and look well placed to emulate their record-breaking success of 2001. Will anyone be able to halt the Ferrari fire-power?
Formula One has become extremely boring nowadays. The financial, developmental and technical gaps between the top three teams, Ferrari, Williams and McLaren, and the rest of the teams are far, far too great, with Ferrari really out on its own. I used to be an avid fan and follower of Formula One, but not any more. Who wants to watch the 'follow the leader' type of races that Formula One presents now? Not me, I can think of better things to do than be bored stiff watching the Schumachers (plus maybe a couple of others if we're lucky) playing with each other for two hours.
Something must be done to make the sport more equally competitive, e.g. introduce rules/regulations to ensure that the cars are more equal to each other in technical quality etc., so that driver efficiency and competence once again becomes an important part of racing.
What can the other teams do? They have money, excellent drivers and mechanics. They're unstoppable and as a Benetton (Renault) fan I know we have no chance of the drivers and constructors championship even with Jensen Button.
For the good of the sport, Michael Schumacher needs to retire. It's getting monotonous, and that's not healthy.
I think by today's race it looks clear that Schumi will win his fifth title. The new Ferrari is very fast and I think the writing is on the wall.
The man of the race was Ralf. Criticized for being soft at Interlagos, he put on a brilliant display to shut up his detractors. This is Michael's year but Ralf could easily challenge Michael next season.
I think Williams still have a look in. Nice to see Coulthard behind Button, his crude comments are becoming tiresome as his season falls apart. Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall and is angling for a spot as a future motoring presenter or pundit.
The new Ferrari looks unbeatable like the rumours we heard!
Given that its only race four out of a 17 races championship, there is still a long way to go. Williams can still challenge the lead during the summer as the high temperature might suit their tyres better. Also the high speed circuits are coming up which might give Williams some advantage.
Ferrari were undeniably strong today and as a Schumi fan it was great to see him put in a commanding performance. But, I don't think this means it is all over for the others - Ralf looks strong and JPM had an 'off' day, whilst Rubens can only improve his position.
The other teams are, quite frankly, just not up to it. McLaren cannot be trusted to finish races, and Williams, in spite of the powerful BMW engines do not seem to be performing.
Over the last two seasons Michael Schumacher has shown what he can do if he has the best car on the grid, and he certainly seems to have that now. So far, the only car to beat the 2002 Ferrari has been another 2002 Ferrari. Unless the other teams mange to do something fast, this is once again going to be a one-horse race.
This could be a hatrick season for both Schumi and Ferrari. The Ferrari F2002 is emerging as 'the fastest' car. Last year it was BMW in San Marino but this time it's out right Ferrari which dominated from Pole to chequered flag. So much was said about Montoya this weekend but, nothing really happened.
I think Michael Schumacher is going to dominate this season. He is the best driver with the best car. Williams and McLaren have a lot of work to do to catch up.
I think Ralf will surprise everyone by beating his team-mate and possibly Barrichello, but none of these drivers will challenge Michael in the second half of the season. He is just too good sadly.
Unless the combination of Ferrari and Schumi can be broken, then it is unlikely that anyone will be able to overcome their dominance. Indeed if Schumi left for another team the respite would only be temporary until he had that team on pole.
Schumi is simply the best. He is a class act altogether by himself. Ralf drove a brilliant race to finish third outpacing his much hyped team-mate throughout the weekend. The combination of Schumi and Ferrari look invincible. By the looks of it Schumi and co should wrap up the championship earlier than last year.
It is too early to tell, especially since the top three manufacturers have come up with competitive cars with equally competitive tire compounds. In the end what it boils down too is the nerves and the skill of the drivers......and that's where Ferrari has a serious edge since no one comes close to Schumacher in that area.
Surely it will be another Ferrari season with Michael Schumacher taking the driver's title as well. It is early to say it, but I think Ralf will be the closest rival to Michael at the end.
