How will Britain fare in Europe?
Mark Viduka, Henrik Larsson and Michael Owen will be wanting to score on the European stage
The draws for the next round of the Champions League and Uefa cup have thrown up some tough ties.

But who can go the furthest and make Britain proud?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Manchester United will meet arch rivals and holders Bayern Munich in the Champions League second round.

Meanwhile, Liverpool face a tough test after being drawn with Spanish giants Barcelona, Turkey's Galatasaray and Italian champions Roma.

The Uefa Cup third round draw sees Celtic paired with Valencia, Ipswich with Inter Milan, Rangers with Paris-Saint Germain and Leeds with Switzerland's Grasshoppers.

The competitions showcase the top talent in Europe, with British teams having already put in some sterling performances.

But who is most likely to go all the way?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Man Utd should qualify from their group, although I think Bayern will top it. Liverpool have the ability to go through, although it is a formidible task. Arsenal will have to play a lot better to get through, even in second spot. Come on Rangers! I agree that PSG are no longer the side they once were, and it is a great chance for the Gers to get through.
David Hamilton, UK

Liverpool are shining at the moment, and I think if Owen stays fit they could go a long way. But Man U can't be counted out, they have perhaps one of the strongest teams in Europe and once they get it right, and I'm sure they will, they'l leave them all in their wake!

Jimmy, Australia (but English)

Man United's day has been and gone? I'm sorry, but the two defeats against Deportivo just proved what I already knew - United are no longer amongst the elite teams in Europe. The crop of players which has come through peaked two or three years ago, and the loss of Ferguson will signify their downfall once and for all!
Simon Craft, England

I bet there are good odds on all the UK teams getting through to the fourth round, I can see all qualifying. Ipswich and Celtic play better as underdogs.
Matthew Kenny, Ireland

Watch out Europe, 'Pool are coming to get you!
Helen, UK

United need only put Roy Keane in defence and everything will click again. Ole Gunnar and Ruud are more than enough for goals, and Paul Scholes is a world class midfielder, as he has shown with England. Alex will soon come to his senses and use Roy as a defender and then we'll be European Champions again come next spring!
Hrafn Valgardsson, Iceland

Barcelona, Roma, Galatasaray, bring the whole lot on! With the likes of Owen, Gerrard, fowler and Hamman I have no doubt we'll be in the quarters. We beat Barca and Roma last year and we'll do it again. When Liverpool get to the next phase we'll prove to everyone we're up there with the best of them.
Amit, Kenya

As a Liverpool fan it was daunting to see our new group. I really want Liverpool to do well and have as good a run in the European competition as they did last year. I think Michael Owen will prove his value in the coming ties and also I think Riise and Murphy will be key players as we launch our attack on Europe. So watch out Europe, Pool are coming to get you!
Helen, UK

Hail! Hail! The Celts are here! A tough draw, but with 60,000 at Parkhead anything's possible
Alan, Scotland

Ipswich have been rewarded with a great draw in the UEFA Cup third round. A game against the Italian giants could be just what Town need to build their confidence. Titus Bramble could be given the chance to mark Ronaldo on his comeback, and Sixto Peralta can show the club that loaned him to us what he is really capable of. Roll on the Tractor Boys!
Kevin Chambers, England

Arsenal are too reliant on Henry and Vieira and will struggle in the next group stage
Rob, England

Arsenal will struggle, on current form, to keep up with the 'bigger boys'. Man Utd will probably qualify for the quarter-final stage, but not without a hiccup or two! Liverpool's group will be very tight and may come down to goal difference in the end. I suspect their resolve will carry them through.
Chris Cowan, UK

Liverpool are the club that England will be proud of. Houllier has built a brilliant team who have more than proved themselves in Europe. They will lift the Champions League Trophy.
Donna Livell, UK

Liverpool won their group, yet they still have to face Barcelona, Roma, and a trip to Istanbul to face Galatasaray - never a favourite place for visiting English teams. Where's the fairness in that? Man United meanwhile get a very jammy draw, with the only threat coming from Bayern.
Ian Brown, England

As a Liverpool fan, I think it would be a great achievement if Liverpool make the quarter-finals in their first year in the competition, but further progress may be possible. Man Utd have the potential to go all the way, but only if they strengthen their shambolic defence. Arsenal are too reliant on Henry and Vieira and I think they will struggle in the next group stage when they come up against better quality teams.
Rob, England

After what looked like quite a formidable 16, how did Real Madrid pull their group off? UEFA might as well give them a by into the quater finals!
James Alexander, England

Man United are consistently jammy in these draws, if they don't get through that draw, then they don't deserve to win. Liverpool and Arsenal have been unlucky, especially considering Liverpool finished top.
Benjamin Payne, UK

On paper United should qualify from this group but will struggle if they continue with their current form
Richard Boyer, UK
Another good draw for Man Utd, as always. Liverpool finish top of their group without losing and then face the toughest group.
Gavin, England

Liverpool are up against it, Barcelona are in form, Galatasary are always difficult to beat, and Roma will be looking for revenge, I can see Man Utd winning their group, and Arsenal will have to start playing to get second spot.
Raymo, England

It was lucky Liverpool won their group otherwise they could have had a really hard second stage group like Man Utd.
Aid, England

As a Man Utd fan this was always going to be a tough draw. Although Liverpool have the toughest group with Barca, Roma and a difficult trip to Turkey. On paper United should qualify from this group but will struggle if they continue with their current form. Hopefully by February everything should be running more smoothly.
Richard Boyer, UK

I know that Liverpool got a bad draw compared to Man Utd and Arsenal but if they were to go through I would rate them among the best teams in Europe.
Naresh Sunder, England

Let's hope Rangers take advantage of the away goals then let them chase the game at Ibrox!
Paul Henney, UK
Arsenal are too weak in their away form, but if Wenger perhaps plays a five man midfield away and picks up a couple of points then they should come through with their excellent home form. Man Utd can go all the way if Ferguson stops playing 4-1-4-1 at home. And Liverpool I fancy because the rest will take points from each other. Come on the English!
A. Shot, Aldershot, England

Tough draw for Celtic and Tractor boys. Celtic can pull it off though. Rangers should also go through as PSG are not the team they used to be. Leeds should go through too. Good luck all UK teams.
Paul, London

Hard luck Celtic. It's a toughie but Ranger are in with a good shout. Let's hope we take advantage of the away goals then let them chase the game at Ibrox! Best chance for the fourth Rd for a long time.
Paul Henney, UK

Great draw for Ipswich, I think that they will push Inter all the way, but only if they can play as good at home as they do away. Can't wait to see Man utd v Bayern again, should be a cracker!
Kevin, England

Looks like we'll only have one British team in the fourth round of the Uefa Cup
Jason, UK
Tough draw for Arsenal, but at least it gives them a chance to really prove how good they are. To be the best they have to beat the best, and why not start now?
Benjamin Payne, UK

Celtic will beat Valencia as they have sold their best players.
Paul Stokes, Wales

What a dream draw for the tractor Boys! It's a fantastic reward for two great Uefa cup away performances.
Martin Linfield, England

Looks like we'll only have one British team in the fourth round of the Uefa Cup. Very bad luck for Celtic doing so well in the Champions League and then drawing the favourites in the Uefa cup. I can't see Ipswich beating Inter, and Rangers will have to pull out all the stops to get past PSG. Leeds seem to have the easiest draw despite only scraping through last night.
Jason, UK

This is a great draw for Man Utd
Mark, England

I was on holiday in Paris last week and got to see PSG play at home. All I can say is that Rangers are through...
Derek Griffin, England

Why did Liverpool make such a valiant effort to finish top of their group, only to face Roma, Barcelona and Galatasaray? It would have been better to finish second, looking at Boavista's group, what a shame!
Ben, UK

This is a great draw for Man Utd, and should give us breathing space to iron out our tactical problems. Come on Fergie don't blow this chance, Glasgow is on. 4-4-2 at home 4-1-4-1 away in Europe and a fitting retirement party is yours.
Mark, England

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal Should all qualify but it will be difficult. All four groups should bring together plenty of good football and lots of shocks.
Simon Parker, England

Liverpool have the toughest group of the three English teams
Ishpaul, UK

As a Liverpool supporter I really wanted to get drawn against Real Madrid as a test to see how far the team has come. As it goes Barcelona and Roma might prove to be a tougher test after we dumped both out of the Uefa Cup last year. Galatasary have also proved that they can take on the best in Europe and win, but I think Liverpool can play the sort of football that gets results against all these big teams.

Houllier's revival of the Liverpool team is only partly complete. I can't wait for the next chapter to begin unfolding.
Lee Coombes, England

Liverpool have the toughest group of the three English teams. Arsenal's group looks tough but Juventus have shown that they are leaking goals at the moment and Deportivo are looking beatable.

Man Utd have the easiest group. Both Nantes and Boavista are both average teams who have not got that much previous experience in the Champions League. Man Utd and Bayern will go through from group A.

Liverpool will just sneak through due to there good defence away from home along with Barcelona. Real Madrid destroy the opposition in group C and will go through along with Porto.
Ishpaul, UK

Arsenal will go out. Man Utd should go through. Liverpool? They should go through - but it will be tight.
Pav, (Liverpool's Number 1 Arm Chair supporter), England

Alex Ferguson could hardly have expected a draw like this considering his team was in the third pot. Both Boavista and Nantes are beatable home and away which leaved United and Bayern in the top two spots. Just find a defence and they can progress with ease into the quarter finals.
Roy Bristow, UK
