Your say on Ireland's victory
Ireland end England's Grand slam hopes with a thrilling 20-14 victory in the final Six Nations match in Dublin.

E-mail your verdict on the match.

HAVE YOUR SAY

England may have won the Six Nations, but it was Ireland who stole the glory in Dublin with a 20-14 victory at Lansdowne Road.

Keith Wood's first half try, combined with the kicking of Humphries and O'Gara, gave the home side their first victory over England in six years.

England, who were without captain Matt Dawson for the last 40 minutes, have now thrown away potential Grand Slams for three successive seasons.

England were poor, but Ireland's men in green were heroic and out-performed Clive Woodward's side in every facet of the game.

Where did it all go wrong for England? And who stood out for Ireland? E-mail your verdict on the Six Nations showdown.

I'm sorry but Woodward has to go. It doesn't matter how good you play, how many stars you have or what kind of "grand design" you have in the back of your mind, a team is judged by its results and this team should be heralded for what they are - spectacular failures. To suffer losing out at final hurdle once is understandable, twice is unfortunate but 3 times is just plain pathetic and a sign of something more endemic than bad fortune. Clearly we should start looking at new personnel for whom wearing an England shirt actually means something more than a financial reward. When the chips are down and things aren't going your way (as they were in 1991), a good team takes stock and overcomes the obstacles. The result today proved that this England team is not a good team.

Nobody can take anything away from the performance that the Irish team showed out there
Cian Nolan, Ireland

As an Irishman living in England for the last 15 years, there are few days as good as this. Ireland controlled the game, which is something we never usually do. Wood was magnificent but I am delighted for two old campaigners Mick Galwey and The "claw" Clohessey who were outstanding. Cockles and Mussels, Alive Alive O.
Seamus O'Brien, England

Alex Crook, have you ever played rugby before, watched it or read about it? In fact, do you know how to spell rugby. I can't believe such a myopic, bigoted view came from a Scotsman. Ireland played better rugby, were more organised than the English and only played the referee as much as the opposition did. Clive Woodward was gracious enough to admit that the better team on the day won, why can't you be?
Simon, England

People can have their own opinions as to why England lost. They had no Martin Johnson, no Lawrence Dallaglio and no Phil Vickerey, but nobody can take anything away from the performance that the Irish team showed out there today. I was there and it is a memory I shall have for the rest of my life. Bring on the "All Blacks".
Cian Nolan, Ireland

Well done Ireland, but sorry for beating you at Murrayfield! Never got to see the game but from what I read they achieved what Scotland did last year! Proving that if teams dig down, England aren't as unbeatable as they may think. Roll on next season!
DC, Scotland

The best player on the Park was the little Irish Scrum Half who played out of his skin. Brilliant, well done Ireland. I think it is time for Woodward and Mr Henry of Wales to quit.

England are the great self-deluders of world rugby
Mark Jackson, England
Congratulations to Ireland on a thoroughly deserved victory but, as an England supporter, I am totally disgusted at yet another gutless, shambolic performance from a team which yet again has been found wanting at the final hurdle. Clive Woodward, in his after match comments, spoke about "learning lessons". Sorry Clive, but today's abject display proved that neither you nor your dismal, overrated team have learnt anything from past failures.

England are the great self-deluders of world rugby, all talk and no delivery. They have delusions of grandeur totally at odds with the reality of their past achievements and future potential. Good teams (never mind great teams) simply don't bottle it with the frequency England do.

Woodward also talked after the game about the need to move on, and he is right. So goodbye Clive, and please take your team of gutless wonders with you. You have all failed once too often.
Mark Jackson, England

A fully deserved win by Ireland. It seems they are starting to play with consistency, something which has always been lacking from their game. What a great performance to finish joint top in the championship. Well done Ireland!
Eoghan, Germany

Well done Ireland....what a pity Scotland beat us and deprived us of the Grand Slam. Limerick, Munster and Ireland...the heart of rugby
Sean Collins, Ireland

Oh dear Mr Crook, your surname rather gives the game away - trying to rob Ireland of the plaudits they deserve. I don't think Keith Wood will lose any sleep over your assessment of his try or the accolade of man-of-the-match.
Paul, England

England lost to the better team on the day
Rory, Ireland
Hats off to Ireland. It seems that pulling on an England shirt is not motivation enough these days. Without Martin Johnson to motivate and tighten things up, the pack looked a bovine, ponderous bunch. As for the kicking game...well, it had shades of England in the bad old days of Carling's captaincy.
Mark Gosbee, England

Oh dear! Cheating? I don't think so, and as for a biased referee - how's that for sour grapes? England lost to the better team on the day and, come another day, I can see Ireland being the better team then too. England are good, but as Rich says, they aren't good enough to turn it on in the pressure matches and until then they'll always be second best.
Rory, Ireland

That's the first Union international I've watched for some years, and cannot see why these England players enjoy such media hype. Ponderous in thought and movement, none could pass accurately, tackle securely, or show the faintest notion of where and how to attack.

Watching Johnny Wilkinson run the clock down when his side was behind was as mysterious as watching the forwards stroll up to injury-time lineouts. It was almost comical in its ineptitude. Woodward should have selected Henry Paul straight away for this game.

What took the field today weren't worthy to lace his boots, and that includes Jason Robinson, who has sunk so quickly into the mediocrity that surrounded him today.
John, England

Ireland had no chance of beating England unless they cheated, which they did
Alex Crook, Scotland

Oh dear, looks like we have a sore loser Alex! Ireland should be dejected however that they didn't beat the Scots, otherwise the Grand Slam would have been theirs!
Brian O'Neill, Ireland

Let's be honest, even in light of England's defeat they're still the best Northern Hemisphere rugby nation. In fact, at present they are probably at No2 in the world behind Australia. So this should be viewed in context: An aberration. It is however worrying that they've developed the habit of losing the pressure games which really count. If they're going to mount a credible challenge in RWC 2003, they'll have to work out how to 'turn up and turn it on' like the Southern Hemisphere nations have done.
Rich, Scotland

For Sale: Cheap England Grand Slam rugby shirts, 1999, 2000, 2001styles available.
Peter Andrew, Canada

Tim, I hope you have a nice evening!
John, Ireland

To Tom from England: Oh dear! Looks as though England aren't as good as you thought. Well done Ireland.
Dan, Wales

Ireland had no chance of beating England unless they cheated, which they did. For Woods' try, the number 8 who passed to Wood did so illegally. Also, as a Scotland fan, the referee seemed quite biased. Everything seemed to be against England today, although I disagree with Wood as man-of-the-match. I think Catt was the best player on the pitch by quite a distance.
Alex Crook, Scotland
