The 19-year-old from Belgium beat Jennifer Capriati en-route to the final, but had no answer to Williams' formidable serve in the final set.

Venus got the better of Henin today. Henin is a stylish and gutsy player with a great future. Venus cannot continue to win simply by superior strength. There were times today when she mis-timed the simplest of forehand returns. Papa Williams needs to coach her a bit more if she is to become number one - and remain there for a while.

Henin has nice strokes on both sides and can certainly play well, but Venus is an exceptional and graceful champion with excellent tennis skills. It would be quite refreshing if American sports commentators focused more attention on her immense talents and historic accomplishments and give less fuel to the persistent criticisms directed at Venus about everything from her attire to her family.
