Was it a fight or farce?
Serious fight or media farce?
The daughters of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier squared up against each other on Friday night in front of a curious New York crowd.

But are they turning female boxing into a farce?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Due to their namesakes, Laila Ali and Jacqui Frazier-Lyde gained widespread media attention for their fight.

The contest was screened on pay-per-view in the States, and was undoubtedly the biggest bout in the short history of women's boxing.

Laila, generally considered the more talented of the two withstood an enthusiastic and courageous onslaught from 39-year-old Frazier.

But fight was the fight good for female boxing or merely a media farce?

HAVE YOUR SAY

The legacy continues, I was impressed, surprised and entertained by Laila's potential. I couldn't help but wonder where she's taking women's boxing and thinking of her possibilities has suddenly caught my attention and sparked a bit of interest in the women boxing sport, good fight ladies!
Katrina, United States

I take it that the winner will be Audley Harrison's next opponent! Seriously though, if the girls want to get it on, and the media is prepared to pay then I can't see anything wrong with it. It couldn't make heavyweight boxing any more of a farce than it is already!
Mark B, UK

I don't know why this match has been made. People will only watch this match because of the names, Ali and Frazier. It is a stupid and pathetic way for TV stations to make money.
Sean Campbell, England

I honestly think Laila does like to box and is in it to be one of the top boxers in the future. But along comes Jacqui Frazier who makes it a joke. So she challenges Ali to settle a score for her dad. But when Ali wins, Jacqui will go back to her everyday job and Ali will go on to be a better fighter.
Chris, USA

What's the problem? People want to see them fight; they're up for it. Whether the fight itself turns out to be a farce, who can tell beforehand? Are there no farcical men's' matches? Of course not! Never! Yeah, right.
Randy, UK

They have the right to box as any man does, but to get the coverage these two have been given is a joke. Their fathers and all other male boxers had to earn their place in the ring. Let the English girl Jane Couch {a real female boxer} at them and they would run a mile.
Pete, Heywood England
