Your verdict on England
What is your verdict on Sven and his men?
England made it four wins out of four under Sven Goran Eriksson with an impressive 4-0 victory against Mexico at Pride Park.

Give us your verdict on England's performance.

HAVE YOUR SAY

England's first-half dominance gave them a 3-0 half-time lead and it could have been more.

Three quality goals from Paul Scholes, Robbie Fowler and David Beckham afforded Eriksson the luxury of totally changing his side for the second half.

Substitute Teddy Sheringham capped things off with a superb free-kick.

Which players stood out in England's performance? Did any of the 'second-string' players stake a claim for a starting place against Greece?

Were Mexico the right team to prepare England for their World Cup qualifier?

Is World Cup qualification in hand?

Can Sven lead his men to victory against Greece?

And, on this performance, who will make the starting line-up?

Tell us what you think.

We've got the players and now we've got the manager. Good luck and bring football back home!
  Jagdeep Sandhu, USA
Finally England are playing the way we always knew they could. All those doubters & naysayers that said our players were second rate - eat your words. It was only Keegan's ineptness that cost us in Euro 2000. We've had so much bad luck over the years - Maradona, Koeman, penalties, bad referees - that I can't help but feel 2002 will be our year! We've got the players & now we've got the manager. Good luck and bring football back home!
Jagdeep Sandhu, USA

With three world class strikers that can finish with precision and finesse, I dare Sven Goran Eriksson to replace Robby Fowler with Andy Cole. That would be a sure way to insure that England don't qualify for the World Cup. One can see the clear difference, I am sure Andy Cole would have muffed that shot Fowler put in against Mexico an squander a hatful of other chances.
Carlos, U.K

I don't think Mexico were the right team to prepare England for the cup finals. They could not stand up to bigger teams like Portugal, Belgium let alone German or Italian teams.
Max, Zimbabwe

Well done, England! It's about time they started playing "football". Gone are the days of the kick and run game. The top 5 clubs in England proved that this season. It needed a Non-English coach to bring that into the squad.

G Neal, New Zealand

They were superb in the first half, with three great goals, they played slick football that only the great sides can manage. In the second they didn't play as well but who can blame them, it was literally the second team but still once they got going they gave a great performance, especially young Joe Cole of West Ham.
Rob Davenport, England

All the critics who were complaining about a foreign manager have now fallen strangely silent. It was a fine performance against Mexico and I can't see why we shouldn't win in Germany when the time comes.
S. Iwaniszyn, England

Last night's football was awesome, re-living '66!

Combined with the first real rush of young talent for decades, the future is looking promising
  Rob, England

There are two vital elements necessary to be an international manager- good motivational skills and tactical brilliance. At last we have a manager who combines both these skills, unlike the previous incumbents, who excelled in one, but lacked the other. Combined with the first real rush of young talent for decades, the future is looking promising.
Rob, England

Fantastic performance by our boys. We now have the basis of a good solid team with plenty of players to choose from. It's great to see good quality from our own national side. We can start to feel proud again. They can only get better!
Liz Jones, Scotland

Great first half performance! I think Sven has proved that the rotation system has worked this time and the number of players competing for a number of places can only be good.
Rob Jones, UK

Great result and performance by England, hope we can keep it up when the World Cup qualifiers come around! We looked confident, like the team believes in it's own abilities and that's something we haven't seen in years. Keep it going England, it's not too late to qualify for the World Cup.
Tony Hughes, USA

If we play with this much belief in future other teams will find it much tougher to play against us
  Aaron Kempen, England
The display against Mexico was the most confident performance I've seen since Sven took charge. Maybe it was because we knew nothing was at stake as it was just a friendly, but every player looked comfortable on the ball and we went forward with a real belief that we can score.

The real pluses were Gerrard, who worked really hard the whole match and impressed with his pace, Owen caused trouble up front with his pace too and worked well with Fowler, who put in his best display for England that I've seen. Ferdinand was also strong and held the defence together. If we play with this much belief in future other teams will find it much tougher to play against us. Greece don't stand a chance!
Aaron Kempen, England

Our team is mediocre without a doubt, England has proven that they are a top-notch squad. We, on the other hand, complain that we are not in the top ten. Nonetheless it was a great game, a great job by the English.
Tom, Mexico

The first half performance was superb. I would make only one change, possibly two. Carragher in for Neville and possibly McManaman for Heskey as he didn't look as dangerous on the left wing. Ferdinand was pure class, Ashley Cole impressive and the front two put paid to the myth that they can't play together. Surely Cole must be fourth choice behind the three Liverpool strikers. He would have looked so out of place last night.

But it was Steven Gerrard who put in the best display. He just keeps getting better. To think we have him for at least two maybe three world cups. In the second half it was Joe Cole who shone brightest.
James McKie, Sweden

Unfortunately we in Australia do not get the chance to see these England games but through the net we can at least check the comments and reports. Great performance lads, nice to see an England team looking so good at last.
Dennis Howe, Australia

Mexico may not be quality opposition but they're not as bad as we made them look in the first half. I think Heskey, while still worthy of a place in the squad, doesn't have the finesse to start, but apart from that it was the most encouraging and exciting performance I've seen from England since we beat Holland 4-1.
Bill, UK

England played very well and have improved a lot with Eriksson, but this result should not be taken too seriously. This was not the best Mexican team, many key players were missing.

England still haven't played a true topside under Eriksson (forget Spain, they've never been top quality). But still, England are looking good.
Eduardo Olmos, Australia

Well done, England! The performance was sheer quality and the midfield was intact. Hopefully this bandwagon will roll on for all the upcoming matches.
Dominic Chan, Singapore

The whole of Sweden is cheering for you. Well done!!!
Andreas, Sweden

Bravo England! Bravo Eriksson!
  Stan DeSouza Toronto, Canada
An excellent performance by England, no doubt about it. But what happens when McManaman returns to full fitness? In my book he sneaks into the starting line-up in front of Emile Heskey but its a tough call. Apart from that England are looking great, with the possible exception of David Beckham's haircut!
Joe, Canada

I think it's fantastic to see the rivalries at club level forgotten with both the players and supporters and the spirit shown by the team tonight was echoed around every living room in England, it was brilliant.

If only it had been like this since the beginning on the qualifiers, Germany would be lagging miles behind. The Midfield is now looking invincible, and I would definitely keep Fowler and Owen up front, they were just constantly dangerous and always looked like scoring, perhaps Nicky Barmby should play down the left, because McManaman isn't really the right player for that role.
Alex Allen, England

Bravo England! Bravo Eriksson! After a long spell it feels great to see England playing attractive football. I have to congratulate Eriksson for his guts in making the side younger and quicker. Good luck against Greece.
Stan DeSouza Toronto, Canada

Overall, a superb performance considering the toll that the Premiership has had on the players. They deomonstrated how well they can play together, especially the partnership of Gerrard and Beckham. Bring on Greece and the rest of the world. Once England have some experience of playing together, they have the ability to go far. Our first priority has to be to win the remainder of the qualifying games. If they play they way they did this evening we may sneak it in front of Germany!
Tom, London, UK

First of all what a performance by the lads, albeit against a mediocre Mexican side but still - a win is a win. I just hope though that the only change to the starting line-up will be Carragher for Phil Neville who had another average game for England.
George Stanners, England

I think England played very well. The goals were superb. Hopefully England can qualify for the World Cup and maybe this time we'll do well!
