Who will win the FA Cup?
![]()
Tranmere and Wycombe proved that there is still magic in the FA Cup as both battled against the odds to make it into the last eight.
With Bolton and Blackburn also still involved, could this be the year of the minnows or will the big fish soon put a stop to that idea? Will Spurs cup tradition hold strong? Or will their London rivals Arsenal and West Ham have something to say about that. Could this be Liverpool or Leicester's year? Give us your opinions on who will lift the trophy? And tell us whether your team will be playing at the Millennium Stadium in May. Tranmere came from 3-0 down to defeat Southampton with veteran Paul Rideout netting a hat-trick in an amazing fifth round replay. John Aldridge, no stranger to Cup success himself, next welcomes his old club Liverpool to Prenton Park for what should be a game to remember. The Reds are chasing a second trip to Cardiff, after beating Manchester City. Former Wimbledon player Lawrie Sanchez, who scored the only goal in the 1988 Cup Final against Liverpool, has guided his Wycombe Wanderers side into the last eight. They performed heroically to beat Wimbledon after being reduced to ten men and trailing 2-1 with only a minute left in extra time before winning on penalties. Leicester won through in a potentially tricky tie against Bristol City. Flying high in the Premiership, are the Foxes set for the final? West Ham followed up their win over Manchester United, by winning away to Sunderland. Is the Hammers name on the FA Cup? Arsenal won a fiery London derby with Chelsea and will surely be the bookies favourites. After an all action Lancashire derby, can Bolton 'Trot' all the way to Cardiff? Or are Blackburn roving to Wales? The quarter-final draw's been made. Who should book their hotel in Cardiff now? And who should just stay at home? Give us your predictions for the final, as the FA Cup enters the quarter-final stages.
I think Liverpool are sure to be the FA Cup winners for 2000/01. As a Man Utd fan, I have seen Man Utd get bigger and bigger over the last 15 years and now I can see the same thing happening with Liverpool. This year the FA Cup, next year, who knows?
As a Hammer I can say we've had to do it the hard way but I have a feeling this year, I really do. A West Ham v Arsenal final? Historically, we have never lost to Arsenal in a cup final.
Might have to get Trevor out of retirement for that one!!
Nick Daykin, England For the first time in recent years, I shouldn't have to worry about Saints staying in the Premiership. It's only logical for them, therefore, to do something for their long-suffering fans and win the Cup!
Bolton are going to use our unrivaled away form to put out expensively assembled flops Blackburn at Ewood before marching on to Highbury. We won there in the Cup 4-1 last time. I fancy a repeat. Then it's off to the land of the leek-eaters!
I can't see anyone other than Liverpool win the cup. I watched them against Man City and they totally outplayed them. Even though I'm a Spurs fan I can't see the '1' doing us any favours this year.
Let's face it, Arsenal are always the bridesmaids never the brides, so they aren't going to win it.I fancy West Ham
Joeski, England As a Leicester fan, I´m absolutely delighted that Man Utd will not win the cup this year! Good luck to everyone else, and may we all enjoy the day in Cardiff with not a Man Utd fan in sight!
If Southampton can be bothered to beat Tranmere tomorrow night, I rather fancy their chances against Liverpool at the Dell.
3-0 Down with 17 minutes to go wasn't it?
Liverpool are the team of the moment, but they never seem to enjoy playing in the cramped conditions of the Dell so I could see a big upset which may send Saints to the final.
The foxes have reached the FA Cup final four times in our history, but we have lost each time. Perhaps this is the year that the biggest cup in the world, comes to the heart of the country?
Ken , England If the draw spares them, its the Hammers v Arsenal in the final.
Put aside sentimental tosh about West Ham and the hocus pocus of Spurs and the year ending in one. Subject to the draw for the semis, I can't see past the strength of in-form Liverpool and Arsenal, with the Gunners gaining a narrow 2-1 victory in Cardiff.
When your name is on the cup, there can only be one winner. Two hand-balls that were missed by the ref, Barthez's impression of a statue and going to Sunderland to turn them over, mean one thing: the cup is going to Upton Park. Sorry Spurs, but the year ending in 1 is not going to make any difference.
Craig Gaylor, Kent UK Leicester have managed to progress quietly through the tournament, and have been given another favourable draw. It could be a place in the final for the foxes.
As a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, I'm very pleased to see the year ending in a one. However, I can't see us getting past West Ham, who look to be the form team of the Cup and are my pick to win it.
Liverpool look strong enough to make it this year. Good luck to them.
