Auction raises nearly 100 grand

Sport Relief's 'Ultimate Car Boot Sale' raised just under £100,000.

Items including an X-type Jaguar personalised by Michael Owen, Sven-Goran Eriksson's luxury Volvo and a driving suit worn by Ayrton Senna were among the lots on offer at Sotheby's, Olympia.

Other lots included a World Cup 2002 official England squad suit, signed by members of the team and a white knuckle drive with Ford World Rally Championship driver Colin McRae.

Sport Relief raises £10m

The most prolific bidder was Liverpool fan Mark Harris, who captured Owen's customisedcar, the signed England suit and an England shirt signed by David Beckham.

"I'm a massive Liverpool supporter and I really wanted to help Sport Relief," said the 37-year-old Londoner.

"I watched the night of TV on Saturday and donated then, but I collect memorabilia and wanted to come down and see if I could find anything tonight.

"My wife will probably kill me!"

The money raised will be added to the total for Sport Relief, which is already over £10 m.

"This evening's auction was a fantastic event. We are thrilled that people were so generous in the sale room and we promise to spend every penny well," said Kevin Cahill, CEO of Comic Relief.

Sport Relief is a joint venture between BBC Sport and Comic Relief with every penny raised going towards helping children and young people in the UK and around the world.
