Fife clubs add signings
Ray McKinnon (centre) celebrates with Montrose
Ray McKinnon (centre) was released by Montrose
Fife clubs Cowdenbeath and Raith Rovers have added to their squads as Arbroath parted company with forward Murray McDowall during the January transfer window.

Veteran former Aberdeen, Dundee United and Nottingham Forest midfielder Ray McKinnon has returned to Kirkcaldy two years after his last short stint at Stark's Park.

The 32-year-old had been training with Second Division leaders Raith since being released by Third Division strugglers Montrose and impressed after turning out for their reserve side.

Second Division Cowdenbeath have signed central defender David Mowat on a two-year contract from Wick Academy having also impressed as a reserve trialist.

Striker Murray McDowell has left Arbroath
Blue Brazil boss Keith Wright hopes to have another new face in the squad in time for Saturday's trip north to face Brechin City.

But teenage striker John Dixon has moved from Cowden to junior side Newtongrange Star.

And the Fife club have received enquiries for transfer-listed defender Kenny Munro and he is expected to depart over the next few days.

Meanwhile, Arbroath have released McDowell after only seven months at the First Division club.

The 24-year-old made 21 appearances for Arbroath but was released by mutual consent after not figuring in the starting 11 in recent weeks.

Other players may soon be leaving Gayfield, with former Stirling Albion defender Jim Gardner due to train with Dumbarton and former Partick Thistle goalkeeper Garry Gow attracting interest from a few junior clubs.

Young defenders Paul Baker and Kenny McMillan had already been farmed out to local Junior sides Arbroath Vics and ASC respectively.
