Smart move for United
Allan Smart celebrates his only goal for Hibs
Allan Smart spent a spell on loan at Hibs last year
Dundee United have signed striker Allan Smart on a two-year deal.

The Scots striker is a player United manager Alex Smith has been trailing for some time.

Smart admitted he could not wait to get his Scottish Premier League career under way.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be given the chance to play in the SPL," he said.

"I used to come to watch Dundee United as a boy and I'm looking forward to the start of the season."

Smart added that he was looking forward to renewing his partnership with Charlie Miller, a player he played in front of at Watford.

Sacked

"Charlie is capable of providing quality service and hopefully I'll be able to get among the goals."

Alex Smith told the club's official website: "We are delighted to eventually obtain Allan's signature. I have been interested in him for over a year.

"I watched him at Watford one evening when he scored four goals - at that time Watford asked over 1m for him.

"His scoring record is approximately one goal in every two matches at every club he has played for.

"I am sure he will add to the striking power of our squad and compliment our other front men, Steven Thompson and Derek Lilley."

Smart moved to Oldham last November from Watford for 225,000 after loan spells at Hibs and Stoke City.

But he was sacked by the Lancashire club in May for two "serious breaches of club rules".
